Friday & Saturday : Chester Childrens Chorus Concert

Our Mission

The Chester Children’s Chorus uses music as a vehicle to offer children who live in the Chester-Upland School District the opportunity to expand their intellectual and cultural horizons and strengthen their life skills. We provide rigorous musical training in a structured, supportive environment, encouraging children to nurture their spirits through artistic expression and to develop the self-discipline that promotes achievement in music, school, and life.
Our motto is “Strong voice, strong mind, strong spirit.”
The chorus was founded in 1994 by John Alston,
an associate professor of music at Swarthmore College
whose life was transformed when he joined the Newark [N.J.] Boys Chorus. Because the city of Chester, near Swarthmore, reminded him of the tough Newark neighborhood where he grew up, he was determined to use his talents as a teacher, conductor and singer to offer the children of Chester the same opportunity to change their lives through music that the Newark Boys Chorus had given him.
