County Council Partners With Workforce Agencies
The 2011 Access to Jobs Expo will take place 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at Springfield Country Club, W. Sproul Road, Springfield. For more information call the Delaware County Transportation Management Association at 610-892-9440.
Recognizing that today’s economy is forcing more people into the job market, Delaware County Council is partnering with several county agencies and employers to host the 2011 Access to Jobs Expo, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Springfield Country Club, 400 W. Sproul Road, Springfield.
The Jobs Expo is being organized by the Delaware County Transportation Management Association (DCTMA) in partnership with County Council, the Delaware County Workforce Investment Board, the County Office of Employment and Training, the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce.
Jobs Expo sponsors include Delaware County Community College, Fair Acres, Goodwill Industries of Delaware and Delaware County and Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack.
Representatives from several companies in the county will be present, looking for motivated individuals to fill their employment needs.
Companies signed-on to attend include Penn State Brandywine, Aqua America, Fair Acres, Walmart, Community Transit, Values Into Action, AAA School of Trucking, Monarch Staffing, Prudential Fox & Roach and others.
“This Job Resource Fair is an excellent way for job seekers to connect with several potential employers at one time, under one roof. It’s also an opportunity for companies to meet and screen multiple job candidates,” said County Councilman Tom McGarrigle. “Our goal is to have residents who need jobs connect with employers, and land an interview that will hopefully lead to employment.”
“We recognize this is a very difficult time for people as companies nationwide are downsizing, and we want people to know there are opportunities, there are jobs in Delaware County,” Councilman McGarrigle said.
DCTMA Director Cecile Charlton said 500 job seekers attended last year’s Jobs Expo.

DCTMA will provide free round-trip transportation to the Jobs Expo for residents of the Chester area. Shuttles will run from Chester Community Hospital and the Chester Transportation Center to the Springfield Country Club. To reserve a seat on the shuttle call DCTMA at 610-892-9440. The shuttle schedule is available online at www.dctma.org.
DCTMA staff use their transportation expertise to address workforce development issues.
Frank Carey, director of the county Office of Employment and Training (OET), said job seekers should bring copies of their resume and be prepared to complete applications on site.
“It’s important for people to dress professionally, to make a great first impression with their attire and attitude,” Mr. Carey said. “It’s also important for job seekers to come to the fair ready with questions about the various companies and positions available.”
Carey said OET works to provide a one-stop delivery of career services. OET is a PA CareerLink Partner that works in collaboration with other county and state agencies to provide workforce development programs including two CareerLink centers.
