5th Ward Up-Dates

Monday October 15, the Garden City Fire Company will be hosting their 3rd Annual golf outing at the Spring Haven Country Club. Why not support this event?  It is a great time! The Garden City Fire Company works very hard to raise funds for their department to ensure the safety of the residents. If you would like to sponsor a hole, there is still time left to do so.    Click Here:   http://www.gardencityfire.com/golf-outing.php

 Speaking of the fire companies, we are in the middle of fire prevention week, October 7th through
October 13th. Fire Prevention Week is a time to check evacuation plans at home and in the workplace
to ensure the safety of loved ones and co-workers. It is also a time to check and eliminate hidden
hazards and prepare families and co-workers for any emergency. Finally, it is a great time to make
sure all sleeping areas are equipped with smoke detectors, checking them at least semi-annually to
ensure they work properly if a fire should occur.

 There are two upcoming Nether Providence Township races. The first race is on October 20, the  FUELED UP AND FIRED UP race benefiting the first responders in Nether Providence Twp and the Susan G. Komen @ https://www.runtheday.com/app/index.php?  find &  scroll down to this
event for information and registration.

The second race is the Oy Vey! 5K! Double Oy Vey! 10K! Walk/Run on October 28th
sponsored by the Congregation Ohev Shalom of Wallingford. For more information and registration

 Curbside Leaf Pick up will begin October 22, 2012
Please keep leaves on the edge of your property. If leaves are in the street it may result in a citation.

 In case you haven’t heard, Wilson Oil of Wallingford is making application to place a 30,000 gallon
tank on their business property to store propane. While this doesn’t impact the 5th Ward, there is
much opposition to the placement of this tank in the affected wards, citing safety concerns, potential
decreasing property values and just a plain eyesore. Wilson Oil still has to appear in front of the
zoning board for approval before the Board of Commissioners can decide on anything. Stay tuned for
more information on this matter.

 “HOW TO COMPOST” event will be held on October 18th, from 7pm to 8:30pm at Aston Township.

 Many complaints have been fielded regarding the significant backup during rush hours from the new
traffic signal at Providence Rd and Bullens Lane, and have been addressed with PennDot. There is
worry that this light remain in place after the bridge construction on MacDade Blvd is completed.
THE TOWNSHIP DOES NOT SUPPORT ANY TRAFFIC LIGHTS AT THIS
INTERSECTION ONCE BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETED. Bridge construction on
MacDade Blvd is scheduled to be completed sometime in November, 2012, HOPEFULLY!!!

Please support the Garden City Fire Company and their fund drive.
