No Irish Need Apply

The first song is "No Irish Need Apply" performed by Pete Seeger. It depicts the hatred and racism the Irish faced when coming to America fleeing famine. The images I used are an attempt to visually portray the Irish experience, moving from the famine years, hatred from the "Know Nothing Party," vile depictions of the Irish in cartoons, images of the Irish as laborers, and fighting the civil war in the Fighting 69th, and eventual acceptance as "Irish Americans."

The second song here is "El Emigrante" By Celtas Cortos. Here I used a diversity of images. The majority are images of may day protests of recent years of the struggle for immigrant rights. Mixed in, are images of immigrants arriving via, Ellis island, or crossing the Mexican/American boarder. In addition, are images of various people displaying their cultural identity through participation in various cultural events, which portrays the rich tapestry of America.
