ROSE VALLEY — Rodgers and Hammerstein’s rollicking musical “Oklahoma!” comes alive, beginning tonight, as the Rose Valley Chorus & Orchestra presents the show at Strath Haven Middle School.

“Oklahoma!” is set in a western Native American territory just after the turn of the 20th century. There is conflict between the farmers and the cowmen over the land, providing a colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, struggle to play out their love story.

A frightening hired hand named Jud, also in love with Laurey, provides tension and drama. But it is the music and lyrics that are among the most memorable in theater history. Standards such as “Oh What a Beautiful Morning,” “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top,” “People Will Say We’re in Love,” and “Oklahoma!” make this a musical treat.

The cast includes Chris DiMeo of East Norriton as Curly, Jennifer Graf of Hellertown as Laurey, Ryan Goulden of West Chester as Will, Andrea Kalan of Bryn Mawr as Ado Annie, Michael Dutka of Doylestown as Jud, Sonja Allen of Rosemont as Aunt Eller, Janet Lloyd Murphy of Media as Gertie, and Alan Alvarez of Swarthmore as Ali Hakim. Bob Moore of Chadds Ford is stage director, Edd Paffett of Newtown Square is music director and orchestra conductor, Susan B. Guyer of Newtown Square is choreographer, and Bill Michael of Wallingford is the producer.

Show times are tonight, Saturday, Wednesday, April 13, Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16 at 8 p.m., with matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 and Saturday, April 16.
