Making a mini wormfarm

Worms convert organic matter (eg leaves or grass) into nutrient-rich soil that plants can use. This composted material makes a fantastic natural fertilizer. The worms' tunnels also help to aerate the soil.

Red worms are better than regular earthworms for composting as they live near the surface and eat fresh organic matter, like a banana peel, while common nightcrawlers live much deeper in the ground and eat stuff that's already turned into soil.
